As a veteran, you may be entitled to receive compensation, separate and apart from the V.A. benefits claim system.
Asbestos was widely used in a variety of applications by every service branch between 1940 and 1970. Because of this, the risk of asbestos exposure among military personnel who served their country during this period is especially high, and veterans have a higher incidence of mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases than the general population – in fact, veterans account for approximately 30 percent of all mesothelioma cases in the United States. Navy shipyards around the country were an especially dangerous source of asbestos exposure.
The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs recognizes mesothelioma as a service-related illness, and veterans who have contracted the disease are eligible for certain benefits. However, the process of filing for benefits and appealing claims if they are denied can be a lengthy and frustrating one. Moreover, veterans may be able to receive significant compensation beyond what the VA offers.
The Mesothelioma Options Help Center has a lengthy track record of success in assisting veterans with their VA claims as well as accessing medical treatment and providing legal representation.
